The Tale of X and Y is my contribution to modern age rhyming poetry. Having been introduced to real poetry during my GCSE studies, and falling in love with the works of Christina Rosetti, in particular When I am dead, my dearest. I found it incredibly sad on reaching adulthood, that traditional rhyming poetry was on the decline.
As a father I have read to my children and enjoyed many times, the works of authors such as Julia Donaldson and Simon Philip. It moves me greatly to think that the art of finding and stringing together words to create elaborate rhymes is now seen as something old fashioned and dull. In brute honesty, I find free-form poetry far more difficult to appreciate, but perhaps that is just a showing of my naivety and greenness in the field.
As a drummer I find the world of rhythm and rhyme particularly intriguing and love to play with its subtleties and alter the bias of a sentence by switching words out, or messing with their order. There seems to me to be a definitive link between the works of music and poetry, one which I am only too happy to explore.
The Tale of X and Y started as an idea in December 2017 and indeed was merely a title for 5 months or so, until I finally took the plunge and started writing it in June 2018. It started slow, taking several months to complete part one.
I write this at the completion of Part 1. Three parts are planned. By my reckoning it will take until Summer 2019 to finish the story.
Thank you for continuing to follow The Tale of X and Y.
